This program lays the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you have been told you are at risk for diabetes, have pre-diabetes, are newly diagnosed with diabetes, or have had diabetes for years, this class will benefit you! It will also benefit those suffering from high blood pressure, undesirable weight gain, high-cholesterol or triglycerides, and/or heart disease. This class focuses on learning healthy lifestyle-skills that will stop your progression to disease in it’s tracks.

When diagnosed with diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, or heart disease,

here is what you can expect when you come to your first appointment for individual counseling:

1. Health History and Assessment:

The dietitian will gather information from you about your current and past health history including eating patterns (when, where, amount, etc…), activity and stress levels, and other factors that may affect the management of diabetes or disease. Together, you and the dietitian will use this infomation to help you properly manage diabetes.

2. A Better Understanding of Diabetes:

Many individuals who are diagnosed with diabetes ask, “What is Diabetes?” The dietitian will explain diabetes in a way that will help you understand both the cause and the effects of the disease. A correct understanding disease and proper digestion will make it easier to take control of your disease and make the necessary steps to maintain or regain health.

3. Formulating a Specific Plan to Fit Your Needs:

The dietitian will guide you through the process of making changes to improve your health. We provide advice for managing your blood sugar levels with realistic goals that are specific to your needs. You will learn about carbohydrates, protein, and fat, and how each affects your blood glucose levels. You will receive tips on grocery shopping, meal-planning, and preparation specific for managing diabetes or your situation. The dietitian will also help you learn about blood sugar monitoring and how to use a glucometer. At the end of your first visit, you will have a solid foundation of information to begin taking charge of your health and not let Diabetes or disease take charge of you!

4. Continued Coaching:

Our registered dietitian, Dana West, will help you create a plan for further coaching and support to ensure your long-term success! She is a great resource to have by your side in the journey of managing diabetes and/or other chronic disease. Whether you are new to diabetes or have struggled with diabetes for some time, our dietitian can help you improve your health. You can have abundant health, now!
